My Pretoria: A Cultural and Architectural Odyssey
My father published a book which I designed as well as creating my own display font for the publication. I also created a set of posters for the day of the book launch event. The selection of public and domestic heritage buildings featured, which were built between 1876 and 1933, is documented through insightful texts paired with the author’s characteristic striking black-and-white ink sketches that bring to life these captivating structures. This book is an important contribution to the architectural history of cityscapes insofar as it highlights the built environment of the city of Pretoria (present-day Tshwane), the administrative capital of South Africa. This work, which is a fusion of architecture and art, provides insight into the overlap of the history of the city and the author–architect Eftychios Eftychis’ lived experiences in it. The buildings in Pretoria chosen for this book are divided into the following categories: government, commercial and residential buildings; places of worship and learning; and parks and recreational buildings.
